Toledo, Oregon (population 3,631) is looking for its next City Manager. This scenic community is situated along the Yaquina River among the lush, wooded landscape of Lincoln County and the central Oregon coast. Nestled between an acclaimed wine region and a ruggedly beautiful beach, Toledo’s location along Highway 20 affords residents quick access to important amenities. Mere minutes from Newport, a lively tourist destination with a world class aquarium, and less than an hour from Corvallis and Oregon State University; Toledo maintains a quiet, rural atmosphere alongside the promise of abundant nearby recreational and entertainment opportunities.

The ideal candidate should be a professional, knowledgeable, and well-rounded leader with leadership and management abilities. A thorough understanding of city government roles; ability to foster effective Council relations; superior staff management skills in addition to human resources experience; strong public finance skills to provide effective and prudent fiscal management; exceptional communication skills; ability to build long-term authentic relationships with the community; experience overseeing and working with law enforcement and fire agencies; knowledge and experience in community and economic development; and an interest and ability to embrace Toledo’s small-town feel.

 

Education / Experience

The City Manager position requires a bachelor’s degree in public administration, planning, political science, or related field, and at least three years of upper-level local government management experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The City prefers a candidate with an advanced degree in public administration or a related field and/or three years or more experience serving as City Manager. Training and/or experience in human resources and/or public finance is highly desired. Experience working in the Council-Manager form of government and/or for Oregon municipalities is helpful.

Compensation is $130,000 to $165,000 (DOQ) annually with excellent benefits.
