PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR

The City of Silverton, Oregon (population 10,882) is looking for its next Public Works Director. Known as Oregon’s garden city, Silverton, part of the Willamette Valley, is nestled into the base of the Cascade Mountains. Located conveniently northeast of Salem, Silverton boasts a rich history and engaged community and is steps away from treasured Oregon sites including Silver Falls State Park and the Oregon Gardens.

 

Under the direction of the City Manager, the Public Works Director is responsible for providing professional and technical support to the City Manager, City Council and Committees on all public works activities, developing long range capital improvement plans and budgets based on Silverton master plans, and overseeing the management of Silverton’s three public infrastructure divisions: administrative, maintenance, and operations. The position supervises to up 26 FTE positions and eligible employees are represented by a Public Works Association union.

 

The ideal candidate should be a strong leader with demonstrated management abilities and a broad knowledge of municipal public works and utility operations. Desired skills and attributes include excellent communication skills, the ability to build and maintain strong inter-agency working relationships, expertise in capital project management and finance, strategic and long-range planning capabilities, emergency management knowledge, and an appreciation of Silverton and commitment to community visibility.

 

Education / Experience

The Finance Director position requires a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, public administration or related field and at least three years of upper-level, preferably government, management experience are required. Six or more years of progressively responsible experience in public works operations, a master’s degree, and/or a State of Oregon Professional Engineer license or other local government engineering experience are attractive. Combinations of relevant education and experience that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform essential functions may be considered.

 

Compensation is $109,878 to $140,236 (DOQ) plus excellent benefits.
